Dr. Osborn was born in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of a urologist and elementary school teacher. He received a B.A. in Biology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1988, and subsequently completed medical school at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis in 1992. Following this, Dr. Osborn completed a Transitional Internship at the University of Tennessee Graduate School of Medicine in Knoxville. He then returned to Memphis, where he completed a residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at the combined University of Tennessee/Baptist Memorial Hospital program, finishing in 1997. That same year he joined the University of Tennessee Department of Pathology as an instructor and Surgical Pathology Fellow, and in 2000 Dr. Osborn became assistant professor and director of the pathology residency program. He left two years later to begin a fellowship in gastrointestinal pathology at GI Pathology, PLLC.
Following completion of his g.i. pathology fellowship, he was hired as a pathologist at GI Pathology, where he practiced for 21 years. Although g.i. pathology was the prime focus of his practice, Dr. Osborn also served as a general surgical pathologist, performed autopsies and many frozen sections at local hospitals and surgery centers, was medical director of the Delta Medical Center hospital laboratory and
continued to be an active member of the Women’s Health Laboratory at Poplar Healthcare, signing out both gynecologic surgical and cytopathology cases. He joined Gastrointestinal Associates in 2023.
Dr. Osborn is thrilled to be back in East Tennessee and enjoys all the region has to offer, including University of Tennessee sports, fly fishing and hiking. He and his wife, Stephanie, have three children, Faith, James and Joseph, who are in various stages of their education at U.T. Chattanooga. Other personal interests include traveling, music, personal fitness and spending time with his pets.
