GIA Welcomes Dr. Jason Huffman

Dr. Jason L. Huffman has joined Gastrointestinal Associates (GIA), one of the Southeast’s leading GI practices.

Prior to joining GIA, Dr. Huffman was the director of endoscopy with Salisbury VA Medical Center in Salisbury, North Carolina. He also previously served as a clinical instructor at The University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio in the Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.

Dr. Huffman is member of the American College of Gastroenterology, American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, American Gastroenterological Association and American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases. He is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both internal medicine and gastroenterology.

He graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas, and earned his master’s degree in chemistry from Texas A&M University in College Station. He completed his medical doctorate degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in Lubbock and El Paso.

Dr. Huffman completed his internal medicine residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio and his gastroenterology fellowship at Baylor Scott & White Health in Bell County, Texas. He was trained in endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) and endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), a specialized technique used to study the bile ducts, pancreatic duct and gallbladder.

He has presented at a national meetings and published articles and abstracts about celiac disease, acute acalculous cholecystitis (inflammatory disease of the gallbladder); long QT syndrome (heart rhythm condition); and drug-resistant tuberculosis before and after new antibiotics.

Dr. Huffman enjoys spending time with family and being in the outdoors. He lives in West Knoxville with his wife and their two young sons.
